What is Muscular Therapy?
Muscular Therapy, a form of therapeutic massage developed by Ben Benjamin, Ph.D., provides relief for pain due to muscle tension and soft tissue injury. Along with deep massage, myofascial release, and other relieving techniques, a Muscular Therapist teaches self-care exercises specific to areas of chronic tension resulting from overuse, injury, or life stress. In addition, Muscular Therapy offers a comprehensive approach to address recurring injuries, using specific treatment techniques and exercises to eliminate unwanted adhesive scar tissue, reduce inflammation, and re-build strong tissues for your return to activity.
Benefits of Muscular Therapy
Everyone can benefit from Muscular Therapy. Many seek treatment for the therapeutic benefits of deeper relaxation, reduced stress and increased sense of well-being. Clients often report that they are healthier, happier, and more productive in their lives since beginning treatment.
Stress and pain have many causes including emotional upset, injury, occupation, illness, and overuse of the body. Muscular Therapy has successfully treated people who have neck stiffness, back pain, headaches, and soft tissue injuries to joints. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, a Muscular Therapist seeks to understand and help solve the underlying cause of your discomfort in order to provide lasting relief. As a result of Muscular Therapy sessions, you will learn to identify your body's warning signs and ways to take preventative action before these warnings become outbreaks of pain.
What to Expect from Your First Session
Your first visit will include a comprehensive history and assessment. In the initial session, the massage will address any specific areas of tightness. Your therapist will recommend self care techniques or exercises that you may do on your own to continue to reduce tension levels between sessions. Once the therapist has an understanding of your discomfort or tension, a course of treatment will be recommended to address your needs.
