Path

In 1973, I traveled to Algeria and Morocco and contracted Hepatitis A from the local food. I quickly became jaundiced and ill. Though I recovered enough to return to the States, I experienced a lingering exhaustion and depression. My medical doctor confirmed with blood work that my liver was struggling, but western medicine could do little. Taking the suggestion of a friend, I decided to try acupuncture. Of all things, I thought. When I arrived for my first treatment, a short, distinguished Englishman appeared, sporting a pink bow tie: Dr. Worsley, my future teacher. In my first treatment, Dr. Worsley seemed to know so much about me from taking my pulses - how was that possible, I wondered? Now I know! I saw Dr. Worsley twice, and continued acupuncture treatment every week for two months, before returning to my medical doctor for a follow-up. My liver function had improved so much, so fast, that my doctor thought I had gotten someone else’s test results by mistake. After another month of acupuncture, my blood work was even better. I thought if acupuncture can change one's blood, it must be powerful medicine.

Moved by the transformative experience with acupuncture, I decided to study it. I had always been interested in health and healing but didn’t feel that western medical school was the right fit. In the 1970s, training in holistic healing was very “fly-by-night,” study for a weekend and set up shop. But of all places, England had two well-established colleges dedicated to acupuncture, and lo and behold, Dr.Worsley started one of them and remained the principal professor. Dr. Worsley was a dynamic and inspiring teacher and through his teachings, I found my true calling.

Approach

My original training in Worsley Five Element acupuncture still forms the foundation of my practice. Over the forty-plus years I have been in practice, I continually re-discover Worsley Five Element as the most effective method for reaching a person’s core and bringing about healing on the deepest levels of the body, mind, and spirit. In tandem with J.R.'s teachings, I value the need to establish a rapport and a healing relationship. I really listen to my patients, and by listening, I tailor each treatment to the needs of the individual. I also offer Zero Balancing, a visionary bodywork method developed by Fritz Smith, and integrate the Balance Method, an elegant and effective style of acupuncture taught by Dr. Richard Tan, to treat pain and other conditions.

Practice

I have a general practice and most people who come to see me are asking for help. They have a symptom or a diagnosis which brings them in the door, and in our first session, we usually talk at length about that presenting problem - which could be a physical pain, a chronic illness, an emotional struggle or just feeling that something isn’t right. Acupuncture and zero balancing certainly address specific issues, but their real power is in bringing more harmony and balance to a person's experience of themselves: body, mind, and spirit. And as a practitioner, there’s nothing more satisfying than witnessing treatment both alleviate the immediate complaint and restore greater, deeper overall health. People notice they are sleeping better, have more energy and easier digestion, and just feel more like themselves
